SO ... why does the Pal-Mac Food Pantry exist?
Simple: hunger exists. Here, in our community.
We hear about people in other countries and their problems with a lack of food, whether due to war, climate, government, or any of other numerous issues that may come into play. But what does that have to do with our country?
Check out a few facts shown below.
Some Facts -
The following statistics are for the United States in 2021:
* 33.8 million people (10.4%) lived in food-insecure households
* 1 in 8 children lived in VERY LOW food-insecure households (households where meals are skipped)
* SNAP ("food stamps"), WIC & school meals lifted 3.3 million people from poverty
The following statistics are derived from the Pal-Mac Food Pantry over the past few years:
* We serve approximately 330 - 350 households in our area
* We serve approximately 750 - 800 different individuals in our area
* We serve enough food for approximately 47,000 - 55,000 meals per year on an annual basis
