SO ... why does the Pal-Mac Food Pantry exist?
Simple: hunger exists. Here, in our community.
We hear about people in other countries and their problems with a lack of food, whether due to war, climate, government, or any of other numerous issues that may come into play. But what does that have to do with our country?
Check out a few facts shown below.
Some Facts -
The following statistics are for the United States in 2021:
* 33.8 million people (10.4%) lived in food-insecure households
* 1 in 8 children lived in VERY LOW food-insecure households (households where meals are skipped)
* SNAP ("food stamps"), WIC & school meals lifted 3.3 million people from poverty
The following statistics are derived from the Pal-Mac Food Pantry in 2025:
* We served 365 households in our area
* We served 1137 different individuals in our area
* We served enough food for 64,935 meals on an annual basis
